Sirimon is the most popular ascent with fantastic glacial scenery and a nice steady rate of ascent. Chogoria is the favored descent for those who can afford the extra time on the mountain, with dramatic gorges, waterfalls and mountain tarns. Due to the prevalence of altitude sickness on the mountain we include an extra day’s acclimatization the day before summiting.

Mount Kenya is characterized by a series of peaks which are naturally crowned with snow, and its slopes are covered with forests. Here you can perform an adventurous activity, as the 5199 meter (17,057 ft) high summit is a difficult technical climb. Mount Kenya presents the perfect destination for the experience. It’s an extinct volcano with some trees half a million years old. Straddling the Equator, the mountain provides a mosaic of woods, moorland, stone, and ice, and is crowned by the glittering twin peaks of Batain (5,199m) and Nelion (5,188m).

This route – Sirimon-Chogoria – uses the gentlest ascent track on the mountain with additional acclimatisation day included at 4,200m – it’s also one of the most scenic. Passing up through montane forest, bamboo and heather zones to glaciers, then down past spectacular chasms, jagged peaks and the glaciated “U” shaped valleys and waterfalls and lush rain forest.

Challenge yourself to climb Mount Kenya and experience the exhilaration of trekking the second highest mountain in Africa. Mount Kenya (pt. Lenana) stands at 4,985 meters and is an amazing 6-day trek in some of the most beautiful scenery Kenya has to offer. On your final summit day, an early start sees you on the summit circuit path, which is arguably the finest walking trail in all of East Africa. Mackinder’s Valley on the ascent is a striking U-shaped valley that gently snakes up to the craggy peak and is covered in bizarre giant plants unique to this Afro Alpine environment. Shipton’s Camp nestled under the twin peaks has an incredible location and the extra day spent here for acclimatization offers the opportunity to hike part of the summit circuit up to the Hausberg Col and two tarns. On the descent, the trail passes along the ridge of the incredible dramatic Gorges Valley. The last night is spent in mountain cabins deep in the forest with elephant and buffalo often spotted roaming through the camp.
