Tanzania Photographic Tour Safari

Serengeti is truly a photographer’s paradise ranging from the furious pace of the crossings during the migration, the predator action to a multitude of animals. It is home to the “Big Five” – buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhinoceros – evident throughout the year. During your Tanzania Photographic Safari, you will photograph the “Ugly Five” – hyena, marabou stork, warthog, vulture and the populous wildebeest. Also exciting is a cultural visit to one of the traditional villages.

11 Day Tanzania Photographic Tour Safari is Recommended from July to November, In July, the wildebeest migration moves north, passing through the Lobo area (area just north of the central Serengeti National Park) and the Wagakuria area (remote northern Serengeti National Park along the Mara River) en-route to Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. The migration can arrive to the Wagakuria area anytime from July on wards and wildebeest can be seen in the area, crossing the Mara River.

In September the wildebeest herds are spread out over the northern Serengeti National Park and Kenya’s Masai Mara Game Reserve. Several large herds of wildebeest remain behind in the area and sometimes weather changes can bring the herds back into the area from the Mara. In October, the herds move south towards the central Serengeti National Park via the Lobo area of the Serengeti National Park.

    1. Day 1: Kilimanjaro International Airport / Arusha

      Welcome to Tanzania!

      Your Taswira Africa guide will be waiting for you at Kilimanjaro International Airport. We will then drive to your accommodation in Arusha (approximately a 1.5 hours drive, depending on traffic and time of arrival.) We will leave you to relax and rest in the hotel for remainder of the day.

    2. Day 2: Urban Safari

      After breakfast in your hotel, your guide will give you a short briefing about your upcoming trip. This morning we will set up for the photographic trip ahead, starting with a short workshop from a professional wildlife photographer. You will then check the safari vehicles, plan your equipment and camera positions and charging, and ask any questions so that you are completely prepared for tomorrow’s adventure.

      After lunch we will head into town and show you the highlights of Arusha City, including the colorful central market and Tanzanite museum. Later in the afternoon we will visit a fascinating recycled glass project (Shanga) who support people with disabilities before stopping for a drink in the leafy gardens of the Arusha Coffee Lodge.

    3. Day 3: Arusha / Tarangire National Park

      We will depart Arusha in the morning and head directly to Tarangire National Park, named after the river that runs through it which quenches the thirst of a variety of animals, including giraffes, waterbucks, wildebeests, zebras and a high density of elephants. Tarangire is home to over 550 species of birds and its hilly landscape is dotted with baobabs and diverse grasses. After a morning game drive, you will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the river, before continuing wildlife viewing until arriving at your lodge to enjoy a sunset drink overlooking the Tarangire River.

    4. Day 4: Tarangire Full Day (Tarangire Safari Lodge)

      As the sun rises, beaming beautiful golden light, we will do our first game drive of the day. This is a fantastic time to view wildlife and to take memorable photos. We will take a picnic breakfast to have along the way. In the middle of the day we will return to the lodge for lunch and a rest, swim or massage. Later in the day we will explore the park further with another game drive before dinner.

    5. Day 5: Tarangire National Park / Ngorongoro Conservation Area

      Rising at dawn, we will head into the park early this morning, taking a breakfast picnic box with us to have in a break between shoots! The beautiful early morning light will shines over this unique landscape, dotted with giant baobab trees, acacia trees and a variety of wildlife.

      After a very welcome brunch in the lodge, we will head to the misty forests of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

    6. Day 6: Ngorongoro Crater

      Early in the morning start drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s safari highlights. The name Ngorongoro is from a Maasai word meaning ‘Gift of Life’.

      You will begin with taking in the magnificent views from the crater rim before descending into the crater itself. You will have the opportunity to see elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra and many other species of animals and birds. We will enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the hippo pool.

      The Ngorongoro Crater is beautiful at any time of year and teaming with wildlife. You may experience clear views of the crater bowl or mists rolling down into the base – either way a memorable experience and a photographer’s dream!

    7. Day 7: Ngorongoro / Serengeti National Park

      After breakfast, we will start our journey to the Serengeti National Park. On the way we will visit one of the most iconic tribes in East Africa, the Maasai. You will learn about their way of life, visit their homes and witness traditional dancing.

      The Serengeti National Park, home to the ‘big five’; rhinoceros, elephant, leopard, buffalo and lion, is one of the greatest national parks in the world, spanning over 14,000 km².  The name Serengeti comes from a Maasai word meaning ‘endless plains’.

      Although populations fluctuate, there are an estimated 3 million large game animals in the Serengeti, including over 2,500 lions, 1.2 million wildebeest and over 200,000 zebras. You will also have the opportunity to see giraffes, baboons, colobus monkeys, gazelles, antelopes, crocodiles, hippos, waterbuck, hartebeest and more! This vast and varied park is home to more than 500 bird species; including ostriches, vultures, martial eagles, kori bustards, crowned crane and secretary birds.

      Enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing for an afternoon game drive through the vast plains. A trip to the Serengeti at any time of the year can never disappoint!

    8. Day 8: Serengeti National Park

      Beginning the day with an early game drive, you will experience the Serengeti as the sun rises and wildlife awakens in the golden morning light. This is one off the best times for wildlife viewing and for capturing stunning wildlife photographs. Breakfast will be a picnic along the way.

      We will go back to camp for lunch to recharge ourselves and our equipment before heading out into the plains again later in the afternoon for more spectacular photographic opportunities.

    9. Day 9: Serengeti National Park

      Today we will spend another day in this iconic landscape. You will discuss with your guides the day before about how you wish to spend this day. Are you after a perfect shot of a particular animal? Is there a certain light or landscape you wish to capture? You and your guide will design the day to suit your requirements.

    10. Day 10: Serengeti National Park

      After breakfast in the camp, we will head out into the park and go off the beaten track into the true wilderness. You and your guide can plan together about where you wish to go and what you want to see. Enjoy a camp fire and your last night under the stars in the Serengeti National Park.

    11. Day 11: Serengeti / Airport

      Enjoy your last camp breakfast, before being transferred to the nearest airstrip to fly to Arusha Airport. Here you will be met and transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport to meet you flight home.
