The Botswana wildlife photo safari is characterized by maximizing our time in the field with photographic tuition provided during all game drives and also back at camp. This will include tuition in both traditional and also creative photographic techniques. Such as high and low-key photography, rim light photography and also panning techniques with slow shutter speeds and of course optimizing all light conditions to hand.

We cater our tuition at a bespoke level for each guest and welcome photographers of all levels on this tour as well as keen wildlife enthusiasts.     1. Day 1: Arrive in Maun

      Upon arrival at Maun airport you will be met and transferred to a beautiful and comfortable lodge located just 20-minutes away on the banks of the Thamalakane River. This mid-sized idyllic lodge offers a charming setting with stunning west facing views of the river. It is not uncommon see several waterbird species at the lodge and this accommodation offers beautiful views of the sunset. Your accommodation is a spacious stone thatched chalet with a large and comfortable, complete with an en-suite shower and toilet.

      Once you have checked in you have the rest of the afternoon to unwind and rest at your leisure. In the evening, we will all join for our first group dinner (client own cost) and during which we will discuss the outline for the next day and beyond. Overnight: Thamalakane River Lodge.

    2. Days 2-4: Maun – Moremi Game Reserve

      After early breakfast, we meet our guide and after we start our journey into the beautiful Moremi Game Reserve. The journey to our first camp takes approximately 5-6 hours with game very often spotted en–route and often before we have even entered the official gate of the reserve. We will of course take comfort breaks enroute and as we enter the reserve we will take a lunch break and time to stretch before we make the concluding part of our journey to our first private camp. Generally arriving at our private wilderness camp in the reserve in the middle of the afternoon.

      After settling into your tent and meeting our friendly team of support staff we will take our first afternoon game drive (pending arrival time in camp). We will return to camp just after sunset, after which there is time to shower before we take a lovely meal under the stars.

      We will stay at the same private wilderness camp site for three nights and where we have two full days to explore the various pans, plains and cruising along the edge of the delta in Moremi Game Reserve with both morning and afternoon game drives. Overnight: 3 nights’ private mobile camp – Moremi Game Reserve (all inclusive)

    3. Days 5-7: Moremi Game Reserve - Khwai concession area.

      We will take a further early morning game drive in the local area, and after a coffee break and time to stretch our legs we will the start our transit to our next location. Which features 3-nights in the wonderful Khwai concession area. Our drive time to this area is around drive of around 3-5 hours. During our journey we will take a stop for lunch and often we find ourselves game viewing enroute. We generally arrive to our private campsite in the heart of the concession midafternoon. After time for a quick freshen up in our new camp we will undertake an afternoon game drive in the Khwai concession area.

      During our three nights in this area we will take twice daily extended game drives time in the Khwai area. This beautiful area offers superb game viewing, with excellent opportunities for viewing wild dog, lion and leopard, as well as hippo and elephant and many other species. This area also benefits from the ability to drive offload (current as of Dec 2018). Overnight: 3-nights private mobile camp – Khwai Area (all inclusive)

    4. Days 8-10: Khwai concession area - Savuti

      After our last morning game drive in the Khwai concession, we will come back for breakfast After which we will then bid a farewell to the area as we start our journey to our next location; Savuti (part of Chobe National Park). The journey to this area takes approximately 4-6 hours, during our transit we will take rest stops as needed and enjoy a stop for lunch en route, (usually in/near the Mababe Depression).

      Savuti is a location made famous by many wildlife documentaries (recently featured in the NatGeo ‘Savage Kingdom). It is an excellent area for viewing lion and where we hope the meet the famous ‘Savuti Marsh pride’. In addition, an area that is also excellent for viewing leopard who can often be found on the large rocky outcrops and of course other plains game species. Savuti is also a superb location to view large herds of elephants who congregate at the waterholes in the area, which grow in numbers especially toward the end of the dry season (October).

      With time permitting (depending on our arrival time at camp) we will take a short afternoon drive. Followed by two full days with both extended early morning and afternoon extended game drives to explore this beautiful area. Whilst in Savuti we are also able to take an optional short hike to the view the bushman paintings (a short hike up a well-trodden rocky path of around 15 minutes each way) As well as a visit the mighty baobabs in the area. Overnight:  3-nights private mobile camp – Savute (all inclusive)

    5. Day 11: Savute - Chobe Safari Lodge

      This morning we bid farewell to Savute, from where we will drive approx. 4-6 hours to the last of our locations based in the northern part of Chobe National Park. Taking a packed lunch and with rest stops as needed en-route. We arrive at our lodge at 1:00 pm that is situated on the banks of the beautiful Chobe River. The Chobe Riverfront is renowned for providing excellent opportunities to cruise alongside elephants, hippo, waterbuck, buffalo and the abundant birdlife. Which includes; cormorants, African darters, kingfishers, skimmers, Egyptian Geese, many stork and egrets species and much more.  After check in guests have the rest of the afternoon to relax before we meet for our group dinner this evening. Overnight Chobe Safari Lodge.

    6. Day 12: Chobe Safari Lodge

      This morning we will meet before breakfast and enjoy 3 hour early morning boat excursion cruising along the Chobe river front. During which we will focus on photographing the vast array of bird species that inhabit this area. Which may include kingfishers, darters, cormorants, African fish eagles, egrets and many other beautiful bird species. We will return to the lodge in time for breakfast. Afterwards, guests will have free time and may wish to take a stroll to the local town of Kasane, just a 5-10-minute walk away or just relax at the lodge. Lunch is a casual affair and can be taken at any time by guests. Later in the afternoon we will meet as a group for a second 3-hour boat cruise, during which it is likely we will encounter many different mammal species, such as buffalo, hippo, and antelope species grazing along the river banks. The afternoons are prime time to view and photograph the elephants as their numbers increase at this time of the day in order to drink and feed at the water’s edge. Once again giving us time to photograph the local bird species and also the beautiful sunset. In the evening, we will meet for our last group dinner. Overnight Chobe Safari Lodge.

    7. Day 13: Finishes in Kasane

      This morning guests can take breakfast and rest at their leisure until it is time for check out (for those who wish to add in an extra short morning river cruise this can be arranged directly at the lodge). The lodge is also located just a 10-15 minute stroll to the town of Kasane if you wish to take a walk to purchase any last minute gifts before you leave. Guests are required to check out by 10:30 am and a transfer is provided for those who have departures leaving from Kasane airport, a 10 minute drive from the lodge. Your host will be on hand to ensure all departing transfers are taking care of and will bid a farewell to you as you leave the lodge.

    Chobe Safari Lodge, Kasane. Botswana (2 nights)

    Chobe Safari Lodge is situated a 5-minute walk from the town of Kasane and directly on the border of Chobe National Park. The lodge is located on the banks of the Chobe River and provides superb views of the river. The lodge features a large restaurant, bar area, swimming pool, spa, gift shop and an activities centre. This medium sized popular lodge offers a good standard of accommodation and consists of 68 spacious en-suite rooms. Featuring a balcony or terrace, air-conditioning, bath & shower facilities, writing desk and chairs, satellite television, safe and telephone. This lodge offers the perfect location on the river with just a 10-15-minute drive to Kasane Airport.

    Thamalakane River Lodge, Maun, Botswana (1 night)

    This delightful lodge is placed on the banks of the Thamalakane River, just 19kms from Maun. En-suite stone chalets are positioned in the shade of the riverine forest, overlooking the river. Chalets, public areas and the small swimming pool take advantage of the 180-degree view of the riverbanks lined with fluttering reeds visited by an ever-changing array of waterfowl, and birds and the occasional hippo. Babbler Chalet interiors are open plan and feature a partial stone wall in between the bedroom and bathroom area. The bathroom features a shower, hand-basin and toilet. Rooms are well ventilated and each room has a veranda with lovely views of the Thamalakane River and tea/coffee making facilities.

    Full Serviced Private Mobile Camping: (9 nights)

    Our accommodation for the mobile-tented portion of the Botswana wildlife photo safari will be in large 3.5 x 3m (11.5ft x 9.8ft) large ‘Meru style’ tents. Each tent comes complete with your own en-suite bathroom area with a seated and covered long drop toilet, plus a shower that is filled up with hot water upon your request. The en- suite area of your tent is accessed from within the inside of the tent with a large privacy screen around it and separate to your sleeping area. Single travellers that pay the single supplement will have their own tents. The tents have flaps on all sides to enable plenty of ventilation. You are provided with comfortable camping beds with proper mattresses and all bedding is provided. In addition, your tent features a small table and a lantern. In front of the tent you have a basin for washing your hands that is filled with clean water every morning and evening.

    This private mobile safari includes our own private chef to cook wonderful food for you in the mobile camp kitchen and open fire. The day starts early with coffee, tea, yoghurt, cereal, porridge and toast. We then stop for a coffee break out in the bush during our morning game drives. Unless we are out all day lunch is served in camp and varies each day but commonly comprises of salad, pasta/or a meat dish and vegetables and freshly baked bread. Before the afternoon drive you will be offered coffee and tea with biscuits. The dinner served in the evening varies daily and provides a good balanced diet. A typical dinner is chicken, beef or pasta with gourmet sauce, fried rice, and steamed vegetables followed by a delicious desert, such as chocolate cake, cherry pudding or fruit salad. Special dietary requests, (including vegan/vegetarian/allergies) can be catered for where advance notification has been provided at the time of booking.
