This 10 Days motorcycle tour and Mount Kenya safari takes you to the untouched beauty of the Ngong and Loita Hills; then onward to an area of preserved savannah wilderness in southwestern Kenya, along the Tanzanian border. Wildebeest traverse its plains during their annual migration. The landscape has grassy plains and rolling hills, and is crossed by the Mara and Talek rivers. The nearby area is dotted with villages of Masai people where you get to experience their unique culture and game viewing in the national park.
After the ride, you will be driven to mount Kenya and take the most popular route that lead up to the top of Mount Kenya. It is the steepest and the fastest way up Mt Kenya and ascends the mountain from the west. The route is not particularly scenic but has some of the best tourist accommodations. Most climbers begin at the park gate, although it is possible to drive a vehicle as far as the Met station (3050 meters). 10 Days motorcycle tour and Mount Kenya safari is a unique but very fun and adventurous way to discover the beauty of Kenya. You will be introduced to the region’s world renowned wildlife, stunning landscape, and vibrant cultures. 10 Days motorcycle tour and Mount Kenya safari is an easy off-road motorcycle safari that only requires basic motorcycle skills and good physical fitness, so you don’t have to worry and just join in the experience!
Arrival and reception at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi). Transfer to Osoita Lodge in the outskirts of Nairobi, from which place the safari will start. Briefing and presentation of the off road motorcycles for the tour starting the next day. Dinner and overnight at Osoita.
Know your bike. This is a day to know your bike and get any adjustments you would like to have for comfortable riding. We will also have a short basic safe off-road riding skills training.
Start the day by driving to the town of Narok 146 kilometers from Nairobi and about a three-hour drive. You will start the safari to Masai Mara on your dirt bikes from here. You will then ride up the Loita Hills to your camp tucked away in the Loita Forest a few kilometers from Tanzania’s northern border.
Ride from the forest camp through the green plains overlooking the Masai Mara to your next camp right at the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve. On this day, there is a high probability of spotting different kinds of wildlife while riding.
After two days of off-road riding, you can relax on this day. You will start with a lazy breakfast and hop on the bikes for a short ride to a Masai Manyatta. ’Manyatta’ is a ’homestead’ in Maa language. You will get to spend some time with the Masai families and dance together as they show you their ways of life.
You will later ride back to the camp for lunch with some time to relax and later, go for an evening game drive in the Masai Mara National Park. The day ends with a sun-downer just before dinner.
On this day Off-road Adventure East Africa will wake you up early for a beautiful morning game drive before heading back to Nairobi arriving in the evening at the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Osoita
After pick up in Nairobi drive to the naru moru park gate. From the gate, we trek up through magnificent montane forest, bamboo and giant heather zone before reaching the high altitude moorland and our first cabins (Met Station) for dinner and overnight.
This is a gentle trek that takes 3 – 4 hrs gaining an elevation of 600m.
A short walk to the end of the forest line from where you hike across the marshy vertical bog of the lower moorlands. Picnic lunch at the Picnic Rocks before continuing further to Mackinders camp, gaining 1300m in altitude in about 5 hours. Dinner and overnight – Mackinders camp (4300m)
Leave at 0300 hrs for predawn summit attempt, trekking for 3-4 hours across bare rock and scree slopes characteristic of the alpine region up to Pt. Lenana (4985m), the hikers summit, arriving in time to catch the African sunrise. Later descend to Shiptons camp (Sirimon route) for breakfast. After breakfast, begin a 5-hour descent via Mackinder’s valley to the Old Moses camp (3,300m). The descent is gentle and it offers ample time to enjoy fascinating scenery which includes the moorlands before reaching the camp.
After early morning breakfast, descend for 3 hours through the rain forest to the Sirimon Park gate to catch a vehicle for the return journey to Nairobi arriving early evening.
Neighboring the Nairobi National Park, Osoita Lodge boasts a tropical garden, an outdoor swimming pool and free WiFi. Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is 30 km away.
Featuring thatched-roof rooms with brightly decorated interiors and traditional furniture, each room is fitted with a mosquito net. It includes a safe, desk and a wardrobe. The en-suite bathroom has a shower with free toiletries. All rooms have a pool view and some have a balcony.
Osoita Lodge restaurant offers Indian, Continental and African Cuisine. Barbecue facilities are available and guests can enjoy a refreshing drink at the bar. Packed lunches are available upon request.
The lodge has a childrens playground, darts and the tour desk can assist guests arrange excursions to nearby attractions which include the Karen Blixen Meseum and Daphne Elephant Orphanage.
MAJI MOTO ECO CAMP
Maji Moto Eco Camp is a wonderful place to simply be, to relax and just take in the amazing natural beauty. But, there are many interesting ways to increase your appreciation of these Loita Hills and their surrounding savannah. Maji Moto Eco Camp blends beautifully with the natural environment. All the facilities are built in a local Masai style with natural materials. There is no generator in the camp.
We kept the thinks simple and traditional, with candles, lanterns and camp fire in the evening. Fresh food supplies are broth from Narok town with every arrival including fresh locally grown vegetables and fruits. All meals are prepared simply but delicious by a camp cook, blending traditional Kenyan and international cuisine.
Enjoy traditional dances in the Maasai Widows’ Village, just up the path from the campsite. Learn about traditional beadwork, cooking, and other traditional ways of life. Experience warrior training with Maasai warriors. In the evening, soak in a bath in the natural hot springs, or go in search of nocturnal animals with a night game drive.
