14 Days Namibia Birdwatching Trip Tour explores the wilderness of Etosha National Park. This world-famous sanctuary, centred on the dried-out Etosha Pan, offers some of the most exciting birding and wildlife experiences to be found in Africa. Here, Lions, African Elephants, Southern Giraffes, handsome Gemsboks (or Southern Oryx), Springboks, Black Rhinoceros and many other mammals will compete for our attention with huge Kori Bustards and elegant Double-banded Coursers.
Not to mention the smart Red-necked Falcon, the near-endemic Black-faced Babbler and such Southern African specialties as the stately Blue Crane, the smart Northern Black Korhaan, Double-banded (and perhaps Burchell’s) Sandgrouse, Pink-billed and Spike-heeled Larks, Rufous-eared Warbler and Southern White-crowned Shrike.
The Namibia Birdwatching Trip Tour focuses on finding most of Namibia’s endemic birds. We combine the Namib desert experience (we’ll have breakfast atop a huge red dune while looking for Dune Lark) with a search for Desert Elephants and Welwitschias, and a visit to Etosha Pan, one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife parks.
Expect to be amazed at the incredible habitat diversity during this trip, from bird-rich miombo woodland in Zambia and lush riparian forest in the Caprivi Strip of northeastern Namibia and Botswana to arid desert and sand dune landscapes in central Namibia, not forgetting the spectacular lagoon at Walvis Bay on the Atlantic coast, and much more!
We’ll begin in the famous Sossusvlei, home to the iconic bright red dunes of the Namib Desert, best appreciated at dusk or dawn when the low sun throws those famous curving shadows. We’ll then cross the huge Namib-Naukluft, the fourth-largest game park in the world, to visit Walvis Bay and the quaint seaside town of Swakopmund, before heading inland to the towering domed rocks of the Erongo Mountains. From there we’ll move on to the classic African backdrop of Etosha National Park and finish the tour on the Waterberg Plateau.
This tri-country southern African birding tour offers some of the best birding Namibia, Botswana and Zambia have available. Over the years we have perfected our two-week itinerary to include excellent birdwatching opportunities, spectacular parks and reserves, great accommodation, some top natural attractions and fantastic chances of seeing the Big Five and other rare and special mammals.
